Getting ready to go... the endless, some mindless, ongoing thoughts that run through my head. All I want to do is move on. But we are still finishing our Winnipeg lives -- school, work, packing, getting ready for birthdays and Christmas. So we are here. We enjoy the snow.

This is very exciting, and we are thrilled for all of you. Is the teaching exchange Tom's or Brigitte's? How is B. managing to leave the U. for a year?
You should be receiving our annual Christmas portrait card one day soon. That will be the last you'll see of us for a year!!

Hey guys - hope your travels there are uneventful. I know what it can be like moving halfway around the world with children! At least yours dress, feed and toilet themselves - or at least I hope, ;-)
So jealous of your adventures! We just said goodbye to our Aussie friend who was here with us for a white Christmas.

I guess you have left Hawaii by now. Hope you enjoyed the balmy breezes and black sand beaches.
Speaking of balmy breezes, we looked out the window Jan 30th and saw that our 35 foot (25 year old) blue spruce had been blown down overnight and was about to crush the gazebo. Had to call arborists who came in cape and leotards, expensively. Trees down all over town...especially big evergreens. They don't have much root and the winds were high.
You're really going to miss that sort of thing. We're looking forward to photos of wierd plants and animals.

35 foot spruce tree! Ha! What they really miss are the 35 foot snow banks in Winnipeg now. and don't forget the -35 degree weather, that of course doesn't include the wind chill, minus another 35 below, brrr....

I trust that the 4 am blurry eyed start was overtaken by excitement - well at least for the kids.
I was thinking of you in Hawaii as we were tobagganing and my toes were freezing.
...guess what Bob mentioned on one of our conversations about the fabulous Wiebe/Roberts adventure....that the fire department has a work exchange program with...Australia!

Yes, Sandra, those kids basically feed and toilet themselves. I don't know how you did it, but you are back in Vanc., and obviously survived.
And Judy, I asked for, and received a leave of absence from my job... isn't that great of my Dean, Gustaaf! The teaching exchange is on Tom's job, and Fiona, his exchangee, has already been at Dakota Collegiate for several weeks.
Laura... tell Bob there's lots of active firefighting going on here... bush fire danger area! Much excitement.
Marg, Geoff and Glennis... there were some HUGE eucalyptus and other trees down after the big wind the other day... much chain sawing and removal in the last few days... some of these trees are 20 or more metres high, and they certainly were littered everywhere on Friday morning when it was "over".
